May 2008 - September 2008

Overview

The America's Army Project was a summer internship organized between the Emergent Media Center at Champlain College and the America's Army development team. The goal was to successfully complete a multiplayer map using the America's Army version of Unreal 2.5 and be officially released through the America's Army deploy client. Release was 100% dependant on the quality of the map and there were no guarantees of release. Two teams of Champlain students were hired to create two maps.

My Personal Role

While everyone on the project worked together as level designers, each team member was assigned a specific role depending on their strengths. My role was Lead Terrain Artist, being responsible for all terrain and texture work within the map. Because Canyon deals a lot with terrain and strays from many of the typical maps within the America's Army mission list, it carried a much higher risk . However, with sucess it has proven to be a much more interesting map.

Because Canyon is so dependant on it's terrain for gameplay, with each iteration of the map, the terrain would need signifcant changes applied to it. As the Lead Terrain Artist, this required me to be extremely flexible and at times be called upon for quick results in order to progress further with development.

Outcome

Canyon was released on December 12, 2008 through the Official America's Army deploy client. It currently has 13, 823 play hours logged on AAOTracker.com and is the much preferred map of this release.
